Jerry Behn - Puting Principal Over Politics

Senator Jerry Behn was born in Boone County Iowa in 1954.
He grew up on the family farm south of Boone and attended United Community
Schools. After graduation, he joined his father’s farming operation.
Jerry married Dennise in 1974 and they have four children and three
grand-children.
Jerry is an active farmer today growing corn and soybeans with his son. He is a
member of the Iowa Farm Bureau, Iowa soybean Growers Association, the National
Rifle Association and the Iowa Association of Business and Industry.
In 1994, Jerry won election as a member of the Boone County Board of
Supervisors. In 1996, he ran for the Iowa State Senate from District 40, which
included Boone, Greene and Carroll Counties. In 2000, the district changed and
became Senate District 24 which contains most of Boone and Dallas Counties. He
is currently serving his 4th term as a State Senator.
Sen. Behn currently serves on several committees in the Iowa Senate: the
Agriculture Committee; the Commerce Committee; the State Government Committee;
the Environment and Energy Committee, where he is the ranking member; and the
Ethics committee, where he is also the ranking member.
